Built on the Rock

My favorite Book of Mormon scripture is Helaman 5:12. It reads:

12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

I love this scripture because I feel like with everything that's been going on in my life what with finals, and with the passing of my Great Grandma, I love knowing that even though Satan can try to bring us down, if we are built upon Christ and have a firm testimony and have faith in Him and His power to deliver us, that Satan cannot cause us to fall or stumble. I love the imagery that this verse creates with the ideas of the storms in our lives that Satan can send. This scripture reminds me that even though Satan does send storms, we can withstand them so long as we Christ as our foundation. Believing and having faith in Christ doesn't mean that we will not experience storms or that the storms will go around us, but it does mean that we will be able to endure the storms that life brings us. I love this because it means that through it all, so long as we have faith and Christ and are built upon Him and His rock, Satan will have no power over us. I think that is such a hopeful and wonderful part about the gospel, is that no matter what happens, we will always have Christ on our side to lift us up when Satan trys to bring us down.
